Hormone Therapy For Women
Hormones fluctuate throughout the life of every individual; however, if a patient has certain medical conditions or has undergone specific types of surgery, their hormone levels might be further impacted. The best responses are seen in those who can be treated with natural hormones because the body already creates them and knows how to process them.
- Estrogen – mainly produced by the ovaries, but also the adrenal glands, and fat tissue; created in three forms:
- Estradiol – primary type of estrogen in women of childbearing age; responsible for regulating menstruation and fertility; low levels can have a significant impact on bone growth.
- Estriol – weak form of estrogen produced during pregnancy; in high doses can be effective at treating hot flashes and menopause symptoms.

Although more likely to occur in men over 50, levels below 200 ng/dL are considered low and may occur in men of any age.

Thyroid Dysfunction
Hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) are produced by the thyroid and responsible for the regulation of metabolism and bone growth as well as protein synthesis. About ten million Americans suffer from hypothyroidism, and nearly half don’t know they have it! Disruption in the thyroid hormones is generally caused by one of two things: ongoing inflammation of the thyroid (frequently autoimmune thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis wherein the patient’s immune system causes the inflammation), or hypothyroidism, which is caused by “medical treatments” such as the removal of all or part of the thyroid due to cancer or other medical conditions like goiter.

Wound Care
Skin is the biggest organ of the body, and also the most exposed — responsible for protecting the rest of what lies underneath. Open wounds and sores can lead to much bigger problems than localized pain or irritation. They can become doors to the rest of the body, allowing bacteria, viruses, and other unwanted intruders to enter the bloodstream where they wreak havoc.
An example of this is the “polyox bandage,” which comes as a powder and can be compounded to include any necessary medication to aid in the healing process. The powder is puffed onto the wound in layers, and if not already moist, a small amount of water is added in between the application of the powder layers. This creates a flexible, rubber-like barrier which protects the wound from excess moisture and germs that would inhibit healing.
Some wounds, such as ulcerated tumors, pressure ulcers, and fungating tumors might emit an unpleasant odor during the healing process. Application of topical metronidazole has been shown to eliminate such odors, thereby creating a more comfortable healing process.
